Jigsee Solution

Congestion/Frequent Call Drops

Frequent call drops, IP address changes, and intermittent coverage are common mobile network problems in many areas of the world. These problems make it extremely difficult to maintain a server connection for a sustained period of time. Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP), a common stateful video streaming protocol found in many of the most popular mobile video platforms, is rendered ineffective in environments such as these where videos of more than a few minutes in duration are being delivered.

Resilient Transport

Resilience is a key innovation built into Jigsee's rich-media delivery technology, no easy feat considering the challenges of maintaining a steady stream or easy re-connect in a wireless environment rampant with dead-zones and congestion. To accomplish this, Jigsee employs a proprietary stateless streaming protocol. Once disconnected, our "smart client" can quickly and easily start from where it left off without reconnecting to the same server. A side benefit of this approach is that it makes the system suitable for handling high simultaneous user volumes efficiently and cost effectively, even in congested network conditions.

Low-Bandwidth Network Infrastructure

The combination of low and highly variable data rates in 2.5G (GPRS) networks has typically caused most network operators to delay rich-media services such as Mobile TV or VOD until a 3G spectrum becomes available. For good reason too, since typically this means frequent pauses and stream crashes resulting in an overall poor user experience.

Adaptive Buffering

Adaptive buffering logic is built into several areas of Jigsee's rich-media delivery technology, and is essential to delivering a continuous stream in low-bandwidth conditions. Jigsee's system measures real-time network performance and continuously anticipates data transfer rates at multiple points in the network to make on-the-fly adjustments. The result: video streams and downloads that rarely stop, even when network conditions are at their worst.

Handset Compatibility

The majority of mobile subscribers throughout the world still carry feature phones rather than more advanced (and expensive) smart phones. This especially holds true in emerging markets, where smart phones typically account for a small fraction of total handsets. However, despite their relatively low market share, most popular mobile video platforms are designed primarily for smart phones.

Support Popular Handsets First

While Jigsee's rich-media delivery technology is capable of performing flawlessly on all handsets, our focus has been on developing client applications for the most popular GPRS devices in emerging markets like India. Typically, the most common GPRS devices in these markets are J2ME and Symbian based, which can pose a definite challenge where video downloading or streaming applications are concerned. Despite this fact, Jigsee has developed ultra light, and highly advanced client applications for both of these operating systems.
